Two men are dead following a shooting on Weston Road near Lawrence Ave., around 10:30pm on Wednesday.
One victim, identified as 18-year-old Courtney Faicey, died in hospital on Wednesday night and a 23-year-old man, known only so far as ‘Max’ died in hospital Thursday morning.
Neither was known to police and both were apparently members of the same dance group.
Paramedics took both victims to Sunnybrook Hospital. Faicey had been shot in the head and was pronounced dead on arrival.
Faicey was a student at Weston Collegiate, where a classmate remembered him as full of life and laughs.
“I had a few classes with him over the years, he was a popular student among the school and known to be the funny guy always cracking jokes and being loud in the halls,” he said.
The deceased teen’s uncle, Norman Faicey, said his nephew was a good kid who didn’t dabble in any high risk activity.
“He was in no trouble whatsoever…Just an adorable, loving family person. And to see him leave like this…it’s a heart-breaker, it’s a devastating situation.”
His younger brother was equally rattled.
“When you are down, he just puts a smile on your face,” he told CityNews.
The other victim had been shot in the torso. Initially, his injuries were thought to be serious but not life-threatening. Unfortunately his condition deteriorated and he died on Thursday.
“I heard gunshots, like loud gunshots,” said area resident Gloria. “I ran around my house, my brother was there, we were all on the ground, I got my daughter and threw her on the ground, she was screaming.”
Another resident in a neighbouring apartment complex said the suspects fired at least 9 shots from a black SUV.
“It was a drive-by for sure,” said Nat. “Point-blank basically.”
“This guy was dead for sure, the other guy stumbled for a bit…it was really terrifying.”
The black SUV was seen driving away north on Weston Road, towards Lawrence Avenue West, just after the shooting.
