First Tenants Return To Wellesley Highrise After Devastating Fire

Just over a week after a six-alarm fire ripped through a downtown apartment building, the first group of residents are returning home Saturday.
1, 200 tenants of 200 Wellesley Street East were left homeless by last Friday’s fire. They were forced to stay at community centres, or make arrangements with friends and family.
Now the building’s manager, Toronto Community Housing, has announced it will be allowing residents back home in groups, according to need and safety.
“Different groups will return at different times because the fire damaged different parts of the building in different ways. It is also because some groups of tenants have special needs that will require special preparation and planning. This group includes the building’s many vulnerable residents,” TCH said in a statement.
