MLA recall is off to a strong start

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – There appears to be a lot of support for a recall campaign in B.C.

Fight HST organizer Chris Delaney says in the first week, more than 1,500 people from around the province have signed up to help.  “That includes about 861 in the ridings that are participating in the Fight HST recall recruitment drive.”

The ridings that received the most canvassers in the first week of MLA Survivor Recall were Oak-Bay-Gordon Head, Kamloops North, Saanich North and the Islands.  That means, at this point, Ida Chong, Terry Lake and Murray Coell are at the top of the recall list.

Oak Bay-Gordon Head MLA Ida Chong is defending her record of service. “If the reason for recall is people have felt I have not been representing the riding, then I would take a look back on the number of years that I have in fact served my constituents.”

She says she has always listened to people in her riding and should keep her job based on her accomplishments.

Meanwhile, longtime Peace River South MLA and former-Liberal Blair Lekstrom is going to run in the next provincial election.

There had been speculation he’d forget provincial politics and move on to federal politics to replace Conservative MP Jay Hill who is retiring.

Lekstrom stepped down as a provincial cabinet minister and resigned from the B.C. Liberal caucus in June to protest the Harmonized Sales Tax.
