Rocco Rossi quits Toronto mayoral race

TORONTO – Another candidate has dropped out of the Toronto mayoral race.

Following a poor showing in a poll released Wednesday, Rocco Rossi told a 9 p.m. news conference he was pulling out of the race.

Earlier in the day Rossi had said he was disappointed with the poll results, but said it appears Toronto voters are more interested in a two-way race.

The poll, that questioned only 400 people, had frontrunners George Smitherman and Rob Ford in a virtual tie.

Rossi, who trailed badly in the poll, said he’s not supporting either Smitherman or Ford and had already voted for himself in an advance poll.

Sarah Thomson dropped out of the race last month and asked her supporters to vote for Smitherman.
