Reporters Will Be Able To Give Live Text Updates From Inside Courtroom, Ontario Judge Rules

An Ontario judge has ruled that reporters will be able to give live text updates from inside the courtroom.

Justice Robert Scott’s decision applies to the trial of Col. Russell Williams.

According to the Toronto Star, accredited journalists with credentials will be able to text live from the courtroom using their phones, Blackberry devices or laptops.

But everyone who isn’t an accredited journalist – like family members – will have to leave those devices at the door.

Williams, the former commander of CFB Trenton, charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Marie-France Comeau and Jessica Lloyd. He’s also charged with two counts of sexual assault and forcible confinement in connection to two attacks last fall, and 82 other charges related to a string of break-and-enters.
