CN Tower Stair Climb For United Way

The Enbridge CN Tower stair climb for United Way gets underway this weekend and the participants have a huge challenge ahead of them.

Not only will they have to make their way up 1,776 steps (that’s about 342 metres, straight up) but they’ll have to beat last year’s fundraising total.

In 2009, climbers raised more than $1.7 million. The money all stayed in the city, too, going to about 200 agencies that work in 13 priority neighbourhoods in Toronto.

On average, the climb takes about 30 minutes – and the views from the top of tower are worth it.

The corporate challenge was held on Thursday – Citytv GM Jamie Haggarty made the climb in 16 minutes – and the public challenge is on Saturday.

If you want to participate, come to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre early on Saturday morning with a printed pledge form and a minimum donation of $60.
