Hurricane Hazel McCallion is back in as mayor of Mississauga, but some candidates in the 905 were not as lucky.
Voters in Durham Region’s Oshawa decided three terms were long enough for John Gray. He was defeated by John Henry.

The loss caught Gray by surprise.
“We have to keep in mind economic circumstances aren’t quite as good as they used to be. And sometimes it’s a punishment if you’re an incumbent,” said Gray.
Clarington also welcomed a new mayor, Adrian Foster.
It was a close race for Foster as he faced incumbent Jim Abernethy and Paul Adams. The hand-counted results came in slowly, but by 1 a.m., 204 polling stations, out of 22, reported Foster leading.
There were no surprises in Ajax, Pickering, and Whitby, though. Voters in these areas re-elected their incumbents. For Ajax, Mayor Steve Parish, Pickering Mayor Dave Ryan, and Pat Perkins in Whitby.
Ajax-Pickering MP Mark Holland, in Ottawa during election night, said he was disappointed he couldn’t be home for the election, posting online, “polls close in 15 minutes. – very excited to see the results. Wish I was home to see it all unfold!”
But he still managed to congratulate all the winners last night via Facebook.
In the York Region, there were a number of familiar faces elected.
Incumbent Mayor Frank Scarpitti won his second victory in Markham, beating out rival Stephen Kotyck.
It was an easy win for Newmarket’s Mayor Tony Van Bynen, who was re-elected over Michael Cascione.
Richmond Hill is also welcoming back incumbent and a newcomer, Mayor David Barrow, who defeated Alam Abu by a landslide.
But Aurora incumbent Phyllis Morris, former three-term councillor and deputy mayor, along with four-time King mayor Margaret Black, weren’t celebrating a win Monday night. Morris lost to newcomer Geoff Dawe and Black was defeated by two-term councillor Steve Pellegrini.
In Vaughan, Linda Jackson suffered a defeat, losing to Liberal MP Maurizio Bevilacqua.
Councillor Rick Goldring took down former mayor Cam Jackson in Burlington, and Bob Bratina came out victorious against two former mayors to win Hamilton’s mayoral seat.
However, the evening was not a complete turn around for everyone.
Rob Burton was re-elected in the Halton Region as Oakville mayor, as well as Peel Region’s Susan Fennell elected in Brampton.
Burton tweeted last night, “Humbly grateful for strongly renewed mandate from voters of Oakville and awesome effort from our campaign team tonight!”
