Father Of Missing Teen Denied Bail In Attemped Murder Case

The father of a missing teen appeared in court Friday and saw his case put over until Wednesday.

Vakhtang Makhniashvili, 50, is charged with attempted murder following an alleged assault on Thursday. Makhniashvili is also charged with aggravated assault, and failure to comply with recognizance. He was denied bail.

Two people, believed to be a husband and wife in their 40s, were stabbed outside their home at 10 Greenwood Ave., near Queen Street. The noon-hour attack left their front steps soaked in blood.

Makhniashvili turned himself in to police soon after.

Neighbours identified the couple as David and Delores Langer. Earlier this year, the Langers posted bail for Makhniashvili after he was charged with aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing his neighbour.

His daughter Mariam has been missing for over a year
. On September 14, 2009, she dropped her brother off at at Forest Hill Collegiate but never went to class herself. Her disappearance is still unsolved.

Her brother George was also reported missing earlier this week. He was gone for less than 12 hours and a fight with his parents over music may have sparked his temporary disappearance.
