A new study found that sleeping with the light on, even a dim night light, could lead to depression.
Neuroscientists believe sleeping in anything other than a completely dark room could adversely affect the chemical balance and structure of the brain.
They said it interferes with the secretion of the hormone melatonin, which lets the body know it’s night time.
A team at Ohio State University came to the conclusion after comparing two sets of hamsters: one group, which was exposed to a dim light at night, and the other, which enjoyed complete darkness.
They found even a dim light was enough to make the hamsters depressed after eight weeks.
