He was making the media rounds on the morning he took office.
But it’s what Mayor Rob Ford told 680News that made headlines.
“Transit City’s over,” Ford said in an interview with 680News political affairs specialist John Stall.
He’s long promised to scrap the plan, replacing light rail trains with subways. Ford’s new proposal includes expanding the Sheppard line and converting the Scarborough RT into a subway.

“Rob Ford, Mayor of Toronto, December 1,” Ford said with a chuckle.
“It feels absolutely fantastic. I just can’t wait to get into the office and start meeting with people. I’m actually just pulling in to City Hall as we speak. I have a meeting at seven o’clock. I’m going to start meeting with people and getting the job done and the city straightened around.
“There’s no secret I’m meeting with Gary Webster, just to make sure that he and I are on the same wavelength that Transit City’s over.
“People do not want streetcars and we’re going to start building subways. We’re going to start right now. I just want to make sure we’re both understanding what I mean. I’m sure he does. I just want to clarify things this morning with Gary and take it from there.
“I’ll be meeting with Mr. McGuinty probably in the next three or four weeks. He’s very, very busy and so am I, so we’re just trying to get a half hour of time that fits in both our schedules and taking it from there.”
