200 complaints sent to Ford about Don Cherry’s speech

TORONTO, Ont. – Mayor Rob Ford’s director of communications, Adrienne Batra, said Ford received around 200 complaints from the public about the speech that hockey commentator Don Cherry made last Tuesday.

Last Tuesday, Ford swore in at his inaugural city council meeting. The hockey commentator triggered public attention when he made reference to “pinkos” and “left-wing kooks.”

“I’ve been being ripped to shreds by the left-wing pinko newspapers out there. It’s unbelievable. One guy called me a jerk in a pink suit, so I thought I’d wear that for him too, today,” Cherry said.

“… I say he’s going to be the greatest mayor this city has ever seen, as far as I’m concerned, and put that in your pipe, you left-wing kooks. Thank you very much.”

The Mayor’s office has responded to the complaints in letter form, supporting Cherry’s beliefs and praising his patriotism and community spirit.
