The province’s Special Investigations Unit is probing a fatal crash in Vaughan.
A 23-year-old woman was driving south on Bathurst Street near Centre when the collision happened in front of Promenade Mall around 7pm.
York Regional Police told the SIU an officer had tried to pull over a car, but instead of stopping, the driver fled. A short distance away, she veered off the road and crashed into a pole. She was thrown from the car and died at the scene.
The SIU has assigned eight investigators – two forensic – and an accident reconstructionist to the case.
Police were diverting traffic around the area for the investigation.
