A new study by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health has found a workplace’s key employees may be at the greatest risk of experiencing work-related stress.
A recent survey found almost one in five people report that their job is highly stressful.
Dr. Carolyn Dewa, head of CAM-H’s work and well-being research and evaluation program, told 680News the people who report the highest levels of stress are people most invested in their jobs.
“They perceive themselves as being responsible for the company so they feel responsible for risk of liability,” she explained. “They see it as a career, not a job.”
A solution is to set limits.
“There are people that will take on more and more projects because they’re so efficient,” Dr. Marilyn Miller, a registered psychologist who helps people with career counselling said.
The CAM-H study also found people who were satisfied with their jobs are less likely to say their jobs are highly stressful.
