Man Who Died In Police Custody Identified

A man who died while in the custody of Toronto Police has been identified.
Kenrick Terrence McLennan, 51, was arrested at a No Frills on January 23.
The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in. The SIU alleges the security team at the Lawrence Avenue and Markham Road store first apprehended McLennan for shoplifting.
He was then taken into custody by a Toronto police officer, where he went into medical distress.
Paramedics were called in and McLennan was taken to Scarborough General Hospital. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
