Wind warning issued for GTA

A cold front moved into the GTA Friday night, replacing the spring-like weather with high winds and lower temperatures.

Environment Canada issued a wind warning for the GTA and much of southern Ontario noting winds would gust to 100 km/h during the evening and overnight. Flurries are also expected and a low of -5 C.

About 3,000 Toronto Hydro customers near Bathurst Street and St. Clair Avenue lost power, and many more across the city reported outages as well.

The roof of a plaza blew off on Islington Avenue near Steeles, but no one was injured.

“We were doing hair in the back and all of a sudden we heard a rumble,” said Franca Carnovale, an employee of Star Salon. “And then the roof just fell all the way out.”

Police also shut down King Street near Spadina Avenue because of flying debris.
