TORONTO – Strong winds blew away garbage bins, tree branches and even a roof at a strip mall, located in Islington and Steeles area, Friday night.
A wind warning for Toronto has been lifted, but Environment Canada said wind gusts of up to 80 kilometres an hour will continue until Saturday evening.
Moderate to strong northwesterly winds are expected to persist with sustained wind speed in the 40 to 60 kilometres per hour range and gusts to as high as 85 kilometres per hour.
Lake effect snow bands combined with northwesterly winds 40 to 60 kilometres per hour with gusts up to 80 kilometres per hour are producing white out conditions in many localities.
Even though the snowfall is not very heavy, many areas may still experience visibilities reduced to less than half of a kilometres in blowing snow from time to time.
