VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It looks like some letters containing electronic PINs for Liberal members won’t arrive in time for tomorrow’s leadership vote.
The company in charge says it has set up a second call centre for those who don’t receive their PINs in time. Intelivote says it sent the letters over a week ago and can’t figure out why the letters containing the PINs have not been received by some party members
Dean Smith with Intelivote, the company overseeing tomorrow’s electronic vote, says the letters were sent via Canada Post. “It’s amazing to us. We just really can’t figure it out. I mean, Canada Post is pretty good at what they do. But in this case, I have no idea why some of that stuff is getting through and others is not.”
Liberal leadership candidate Kevin Falcon says his office is being swamped with calls from people in Northern and rural BC who haven’t received their electronic numbers. He is concerned hundreds of party members could be discouraged from voting.
Smith says they’ve set up an additional call centre to help out those who don’t receive their PINs in the mail on time. “People will be able to call. Once the call centre folks are satisfied in who they’re talking to, they’ll give them the rest of the information about how to connect into the system and things like that.”
He says it’s the first time in the 300 elections the company has been involved in that PINs have failed to get to everyone.
