Obama says Gadhafi should leave Libya immediately

WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. President Barack Obama has asked that Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi leave his country immediately.

Obama made the comments to German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a private telephone conversation earlier Saturday as they discussed the violence in Libya.

The White House stated that the President told Merkel a leader has lost the legitimacy to rule when their only means of holding onto power is through violence against citizens, and Gadhafi needs to do what is right for his country by leaving now.

These comments mark the first time Obama has called on Gadhafi to step down.
