Apple to release iPad 2 in Canada, March 25

The iPad 2 will be released in Canada on March 25 and will be the cheapest tablet on the market.

The original iPad helped ninety per cent of the tablet market in 2010. Although the iPad 2 has made some key improvements from the original, it may be difficult for apple to maintain such a large share of the market.

Krista Napier, senior analyst of Canadian Digital Media at IDC, told 680News that, “It’s easy for Apple to have 90 per cent plus market share when you’re the only game in town, which they were for the most of last year.”

“So, naturally, as you see more competitors coming into market, as you see more choice, you’re going to see greater adoption of these devices and you are going to see greater competition,” she added.

Napier said comparing tablets based on hardware alone will be tough to do. Where companies need to do well is the table ecosystem and the development of apps.

With Apple’s 65,000 apps made exclusively for the iPad, the competition has some serious catching up to do.
