It’s March 17: Time to get your Irish on!

TORONTO, Ont. – You’ll need the luck of the Irish to get into a pub in Toronto for St. Patrick’s Day, Thursday.

Bars and pubs are filling up quickly as the city celebrates the Emerald Isle.

At the Irish Embassy at Yonge and Wellington streets, every table was filled to capacity. At one point, the lineup outside was about 20 people deep.

The Irish Embassy is expected to go through thousands of pints of Guinness beer on St. Patrick’s Day. In fact, the pub set up four additional taps to handle the demand.

Outside of Union Station, some people heading to work wore green to honour the day.

Charmaine went all out, wearing a green sweater, green necklace and a green tiara that says, “Irish Princess.”

“I’m Irish for the day,” she said. “My background is Scottish. I’m going out later to an Irish bar.”

For many workers like Brandon, the day will unfold like this: earn their pay, then it’s pubs, patios and pints.

“I’m going to go to work, then I’m going to go to the pub and have a green beer, lots of green beer,” he said.

The forecast calls for some sunshine, but no rain, and a high of 12C.
