OTTAWA — The Ottawa Senators are rebuilding around goaltender Craig Anderson.

He signed a US$12.75-million, four-year contract extension with the team on Monday.

Anderson was acquired in a February trade from Colorado for goaltender Brian Elliott. Since then, he’s posted a 6-4-1 record with a .938 save percentage and 2.11 goals-against average.

“He’s brought stability,” said GM Bryan Murray. “The position is one that we need if you’re going to rebuild, retool this team.”

The 29-year-old was due to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He’s earning $2.125 million this season.

In 224 career NHL games with Chicago, Florida, Colorado and Ottawa, he has a record of 93-87-34, with two ties, and a .912 save percentage and 2.81 GAA.
