Durham region tests emergency sirens

PICKERING, ON. – The region of Durham will be testing out recently installed public alerting sirens, near the Pickering and Clarington nuclear power plants, next week.

The sirens are within the three-kilometre area around the plant.

People in the immediate area may hear a siren being tested for up to three minutes but they don’t have to take any action, regional officials said.

The system is a way to warn residents and businesses in the event of a nuclear emergency or other large scale emergency.

The testing will run from April 26 to May 6.
