iPhone or spyphone?

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Your iPhone is doing a lot more than just keeping you connected. It’s also keeping track of everywhere you go.

Apple has made it possible for almost anyone with access to your phone or computer to find detailed information about where you’ve been. Alasdair Allan is one of the British researchers who discovered a tracking file that was hidden in a software update last June and tells CNN he’s not sure why Apple did it.

“Personally, I’m not particularly concerned myself,” he says. “I don’t think people should panic, but I don’t think it’s necessary to keep the data in the phone and people should be aware of it.”

He says you may or may not consider it a problem. “It really depends on the circumstances. You know, some people are in abusive relationships, some people are getting divorced. Having things where people are knowing their locations at a certain point in time can be a bad thing.”

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada says it is following the issue closely.
