Grape tomatoes recalled in Canada and U.S. after salmonella found

OTTAWA, Ont. – People who have purchased certain brands of grape tomatoes are being told not to eat them because they may be contaminated with salmonella.
Mastronardi Produce of Kingsville, Ont. identifies the affected products as Field and Farm brand 1 pint grape tomatoes, and Compliments brand Santalina 280-gram grape tomatoes.
The company took action after being notified by a Florida supplier about one lot of tomatoes which was later determined to be contaminated with salmonella anatum and recalled in the U.S.
The Farm and Field product has been distributed in Ontario by Metro Ontario, while the Compliments product was distributed by Sobeys in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Quebec.
There have been no reported illnesses associated with either product.

The affected tomatoes were also distributed to California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Georgia, and used in deli salads made by Tracy-based Taylor Farms Pacific Inc., which also recalled products Monday.
