Hey Hey wait a minute Mr. Postman; postage rates to rise in January 2012

The price of sending a letter in Canada is going up by two cents next January.

Canada Post says the increase from 59 cents to 61 cents is part of a five-year pricing strategy announced in 2009.

But in case you’ve forgotten, the Crown Corporation issued a news release late Friday that said it wanted to “remind Canadians” of the increase.

The price hike doesn’t take effect until Jan. 16.

And Canada Post says the price of sending a letter to the U.S. will increase by two cents to $1.05, while sending a letter to other countries will rise by five cents to $1.80.

The post office says even with the price increases, Canadians will continue to enjoy some of the lowest postage rates in the developed world.
