MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Steven Turner’s comeback with the Toronto Argonauts has ended.
The second-year slotback was among six players released by the Argos on Wednesday. Turner was selected in the fourth round, 30th overall, of the 2010 CFL Canadian college draft by Toronto out of Bishop’s but missed all of last season after rupturing his Achilles tendon in training camp.
The five-foot-eight, 185-pound Turner successfully returned to camp this year. But while he had not lost a step the result of his injury, Turner, 24, of Brampton, Ont., was having trouble consistently catching the football during drills and scrimmages at Toronto’s rookie camp last week.
Toronto also release defensive tackle Matthias Askew, offensive tackle Cory Brandon, cornerback Durrell Oliver and receiver Drameagon Powers (all imports) and non-import offensive lineman Michael Warner. The Argos also suspended defensive linemen Nate Robinson and Claude Wroten, both Americans.
