Man dies in train collision north of Mt. Albert

A 48-year-old man has died after his car was struck by a passenger train north of Mt. Albert, Ont., York Regional Police say.

The circumstances of the accident are unclear but the driver died in the collision early Sunday evening near Queensville Side Road East and Highway 48 in East Gwillimbury, Ont.

His two-door Pontiac was found about 300 metres south of the crash site.

The train, which was carrying 111 passengers and heading for Toronto from North Bay, Ont., wasn’t derailed. Police say the signals at the crossing were working.
