Gadhafi’s son captured as Libyan rebels enter Tripoli

Libyan rebel leaders say they have arrested the son of leader Moammar Gadhafi.

A rebel representative told The Associated Press that the once heir apparent Seif al-Islam was captured Sunday, but didn’t provide further details.

This comes as rebel troops entered the capital of Tripoli, quickly moving within three kilometres of the city centre.

Earlier Sunday rebels overran a major military base charged with defending Tripoli, encountering little resistance along the way.

The forces drove out hundreds of elite fighters, led by another of Gadhafi’s sons. They captured truckloads of weapons on their move towards Tripoli.

The rebels are said to be pushing towards Green Square, where Gadhafi supporters have gathered nightly since the beginning of this 6-month-old uprising.
