Many Mississauga residents headed to the polls on Monday, voting in a by-election in Ward 5.
Former Liberal MP Bonnie Crombie defeated former councillor Carolyn Parrish in a closely fought battle.
Crombie won the council seat by only 241 votes.
The Ward 5 seat has been vacant since May, when then-councillor Eve Adams made the move to federal politics, as the MP for Mississauga-Brampton South.
There were 27 candidates running in this election, but only a few were considered serious candidates.
Almost 43,000 people were eligible to vote from Ward 5, but only 11,510 cast their ballot.
