With Sidney Crosby on the cover, the new Sportsnet magazine is like a sports roadtrip from a Canadian perspective. The new magazine is being launched Thursday, a few days ahead of the brand’s rebranding campaign.
“Every issue we’re going to take you to a different city, we’re going to try and identify what the great sports city to be in that week is going to be,” editor-in-chief Steve Maich explained. “We’re going to tell you about the traditions, we’ll tell you where to eat, where to sleep and where to get tickets.”
It will be a bi-weekly publication and a sports junkie’s dream.
“Every story we look at is more detailed and more nuanced and more complicated than you get from the headlines,” Maich said.
Thursday’s first edition includes the Crosby cover story, a 35-page NHL season preview, and a Major League Baseball post-season preview.
“I hope that the first thing that they feel when they flip through it is ‘wow, this is a beautiful magazine to look at,'” Maich said. “There are photographs in here that you won’t see anywhere else and you’ll really get that sense of what it’s like to be there on the field.”
The magazine is the first step in the unveiling of Sportsnet’s total rebranding campaign with a new look that will be shown off on its “Connected” show on Monday.
