Man faces charges after hit-and-run in Pickering

Durham police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a hit-and-run in Pickering that put a teenager in intensive care.
23-year-old Scott Avery turned himself in to authorities on Friday.
Police say he is facing charges of impaired driving, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failure to remain causing bodily harm; failure to report an accident and failure to remain on scene.
On October 4, police say a young couple was trying to hail a cab in the Broadview Street and Liverpool Road area around 3 a.m. when the 18-year-old male stepped onto the street to flag what he thought was a taxi.
The man was then hit by the vehicle at full speed.
He was transported to a Toronto hospital where he is recovering from multiple serious injuries.
