U of T steps up security after alleged abduction

The University of Toronto is ramping up security on its campus and police are asking for the public’s help after an employee reported seeing a woman being forced into a car in one of the school’s parking garages.

“What I find most alarming about this is, just before midday, it looks like a woman has been forced in a car and abducted in a busy university campus in Toronto,” said Det. Paul Ward.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m. Friday, the staff member called campus police and claimed to have heard a woman calling for help in the St. George Garage.

The woman was then allegedly forced into a dark-blue or black four-door sedan.

Security guards called Toronto police, who searched the lot, but could not find the woman.

Police have released an image of the woman, taken from security camera footage.

“While we have very little information as to the nature of this incident, patrols in garages and parking lots have been increased,” the university said in a statement released on Sunday.

The school has also sent out two e-mails to students warning them of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
