“Confinement” room found in Durham

Durham Regional police say they are conducting an investigation after discovering a “confinement-style room” in the basement of an abandoned Pickering farmhouse.

Investigators say the room was recently constructed and appears to be designed solely for the purpose of holding someone captive.

Police are now trying to determine if the room was ever actually used to confine someone, or if there is some alternative explanation for the room’s construction.
