Union says no progress made at YRT talks

The union says there was no real progress made in negotiations between Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1587 and two of York Region contractors, Wednesday.
The meetings were held between the union and Miller Transit, followed by First Student.
President of Local 1587, Ray Doyle, said there was nothing from the contractors worth considering.
However, the head of Local 113 said it received a new proposal late Tuesday from Viva and will put it forward for consideration.
Doyle said they are suspending picketing activity until after Christmas.
The talks had renewed hope that the strike would end soon after workers with Veolia Transit — Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113 — were presented with a new contract offer, and union officials were looking it over.
York Region will be going to court on Thursday to seek an injunction to stop what is calls unlawful picketing.
The strike has disrupted 60 per cent of YRT and Viva express service, affecting 44,000 commuters.
