What’s open, closed on New Year’s

This year, New Year’s Day falls on a weekend, which means the statutory holiday is observed after the actual day. Here’s a list of what’s open and closed over the holiday.
Saturday, Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve):
- Most TTC routes on Saturday late-evening service, continuing until 4 a.m.
- GO Transit on late-night service
- Most LCBO and Beer Stores open until 6 p.m.
- Most malls open until 6 p.m.
- Most banks open until 3 p.m.
- Most grocery stores open until 6 p.m.
- Most movie theatres open
- City skating rinks open
Sunday, Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day):
- TTC and GO Transit on Sunday schedule
- Banks, government offices and libraries closed
- LCBO and Beer Stores closed
- Most grocery stores closed
- Eaton Centre is open 12 p.m. – 5 p.m., Square One open 11 a.m. – 6 p.m., Vaughan Mills open 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
- Some pharmacies open
- Tourist attractions like the Ontario Science Centre, Royal Ontario Museum, AGO, Toronto Zoo and CN Tower open
- Most movie theatres open
- Malls open
- City skating rinks open
Monday, Jan. 2 (New Year’s Day statutory holiday observed):
- TTC on holiday schedule
- GO Transit on Sunday schedule
- Banks, government offices and libraries closed
- No mail delivery
- Grocery stores open
- City skating rinks open
