Flames’ Bourque to meet with NHL over elbow

Calgary Flames forward Rene Bourque will meet with the National Hockey League to discuss his elbow on Washington Capitals centre Nicklas Backstrom.
Midway through the third period of Calgary’s 3-1 loss to Washington on Tuesday, Bourque followed through on a body check and stuck out his elbow, striking Backstrom in the head.
Bourque received a two-minute penalty for elbowing on the play, while Backstrom played just two shifts following the incident before sitting out the rest of the game.
This won’t be Bourque’s first time meeting with the NHL Department of Player Safety this season.
The 30-year-old was suspended two games in December for hitting Chicago Blackhawks defenceman Brent Seabrook from behind.
