Provincial mediator to join talks between city and outside workers

TORONTO, Ont. – Only days after Toronto gave its negotiators their marching orders, the province has appointed a mediator to join talks between the city and its outside workers.

The Toronto Star reports the Ministry of Labour has appointed Denise Small to the meetings, which begin on Monday. Her past credits include the 2009 civic worker’s strike, in addition to many others.

The city and Local 416 haven’t met since exchanging proposals on December 14.

Contracts with the four city unions expired on New Year’s Eve.
