Elderly man hit by vehicle in Pickering

Durham Regional police are investigating after a 71-year-old man was hit by a vehicle in Pickering Sunday afternoon.
“It appears as though the gentleman stepped off the sidewalk and into the path of the vehicle,” Det. Const. Dave Ashfield told CityNews.
It happened on Valley Farm Road, near Kingston and Liverpool roads, around 1:30 p.m.
The victim was taken to Sunnybrook hospital where he remains in critical condition.
He exited a nearby condominium and walked east across the roadway when he was hit by a southbound vehicle, Ashfield said. A 26-year-old woman was driving the vehicle.
There was video of the scene, Ashfield added.
It doesn’t appear that the woman was speeding.
It’s not yet known if charges will be laid.
