Chinese compound could cure hangovers and inhibit alcohol dependency

Researchers have discovered a Chinese compound that could one day put an end to hangovers.

A scientist a the University of California decided to look into Hovenia — an extract from the Chinese raisin tree — after realizing her family members did not get drunk at family gatherings when it was used as a spice in cooking.

Months of research and testing revealed that the plant contains a component which counteracts intoxication in rats, and inhibits alcohol dependency.

The scientist has applied for a patent and hopes to begin clinical trials on humans as soon as she gets funding.
