Chelsea’s title hopes take hit after draw

LONDON — Chelsea squandered a chance to trim the gap to the Premier League pacesetters on Saturday, drawing 0-0 at Norwich as Wigan’s plight intensified at the other end of the standings.

Needing a win to boost its faint hopes of reeling in the two Manchester clubs and Tottenham, fourth-place Chelsea was frustrated by poor finishing at Carrow Road, with misfiring Spain striker Fernando Torres the biggest culprit.

Qualifying for the Champions League may be Chelsea’s main target now. Sixth-place Newcastle missed an opportunity to narrow the gap to Andre Villas-Boas’ team to two points by losing 5-2 at Fulham, for whom Clint Dempsey scored a hat trick.

Wigan stayed bottom by losing 3-1 at Queens Park Rangers, its 13th defeat in 22 games.
