1 man dead after Georgetown fire

One man is dead after fire ripped through a home in Georgetown late Saturday night.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at 8th Line near Wildwood Road at around 10 p.m. A passing driver spotted the home in flames and called 911.

By time fire crews arrived, the home was fully engulfed.

An autopsy is being carried out to determine if the victim is the elderly man who lived there alone.

Police describe him as “unaccounted for.”

There’s no word on the cause of the blaze. The incident is currently under investigation by the province’s Fire Marshal’s Office.
