VIVA buses starting service Feb. 4

VIVA buses are set to get rolling again after drivers and mechanics with Veolia transportation ratified the company’s latest offer, Thursday.
Viva service will start February 4. YRT/Viva will be offering free service for a minimum of one month on all routes.
Meanwhile, the union representing striking Miller Transit workers has reached a tentative deal with the company. A spokesperson for the union told 680News members need to now vote on it. If it’s ratified, that would mean all companies that service York Region Transit will be back to work soon.
On Tuesday, a tentative settlement to end the Viva bus strike in York Region was reached between Local 113 of the Amalgamated Transit Union and Veolia Transportation, which operates the Viva bus service under contract to York Region Transit. That new four-year agreement will provide wage increases and benefits, including healthcare and sick days.
The strike began Oct. 24, 2011.
