Torontonians face icy, blustery weather

Residents of Toronto and the GTA are dealing with gusty conditions and slippery roadways Saturday night.

“It’s frozen, I can’t ride my bike today,” said pedestrian Tony.

“We had buses that couldn’t make it up the hills,” said TTC supervisor Matt.

Drivers are facing slippery roadways, created by the high winds and the afternoon precipitation.

A five-vehicle crash damaged a bus shelter and a storefront in the Danforth and Coxwell area. No one was injured in the incident.

“Basically we started skidding towards the bus shelter and a car behind us somehow skidded out of control and went into that wall and we hit the bus shelter,” said Alex.

“This is probably about the sixth accident in about 10 minutes in this local area, it’s crazy out here. It’s just black ice everywhere,” said Jimal Pathan, a tow truck driver with Tormax Towing.

Motorists in Brampton were also slipping and sliding all over the roadways — some even got out of their cars and started pushing. Check out the footage in the video sent in by CityNews viewer Karan Sivalingam.

Environment Canada had issued wind warnings for Toronto and much of the GTA, but these ended shortly before 10 p.m.
