Great Canadian winter missing in action

TORONTO, Ont. – Many of us are likely wondering: what’s up with winter?
We’re almost into February and there’s already talk that this could go down as one of the warmest winters on record.
The culprit according to 680News meteorologist Harold Hosein is a weather pattern called Arctic oscillation, blocking us from the really cold air.
“The earth’s axis is shifting around a bit and we’re getting a little of oscillation in the north pole, affecting the jet stream and that’s preventing the cooler blast of air from coming down towards the south,” Hosein said.
He said we’ve been pretty lucky so far with very few days below freezing in the city since the fall.
But, he also warns some of the worst winter weather can come in the first few weeks of April.
On Twitter, one visitor to the city wrote: “Dear Toronto: if this is the winter you plan to give me in future, I just might stay forever.”
