Target teams up with Starbucks in Canada

Target’s Canadian shoppers will be able to get their decaf, no-whip soy lattes while browsing for stylish discount goods when the company starts opening stores here next year.

Target announced Wednesday it’s planning to have Starbucks outlets in most of its 125-plus Canadian stores, which will begin appearing in spring 2013.

“Starbucks has been a valued partner for more than 12 years and an integral part of the Target guest experience in the U.S.,” said Target Canada vice-president John Morioka.

“Our goal is to bring the true Target brand shopping experience to our Canadian guests, so expanding our relationship with Starbucks as we enter the Canadian marketplace is a natural fit.”

The company also has a deal with Sobeys to supply its stores with food and grocery products.

In January, Target announced its first GTA locations, including four in Toronto, two in Brampton, two in Burlington and one in Mississauga.

It bought the leases of 189 sites run by Hudson’s Bay Company chain Zellers last year.
