Humphries leads women’s bobsled world event

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. — Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries of Calgary had the lead halfway through the women’s competition at the bobsled world championships Friday.
Humphries and brakewoman Jennifer Ciochetti of Edmonton had a time of one minute, 54.17 seconds after two heats over the treacherous 20-turn track at Mount Van Hoevenberg. That was 0.41 seconds ahead of Germany’s Sandra Kiriasis and Petra Lammert, who were just 0.09 ahead of surprising Americans Elana Meyers and Katie Eberling.
The final two runs for the women are Saturday night. The first two runs of the men’s two-man competition are Saturday morning.
