TFC wins 5-1 in tune-up game vs. USF

ORLANDO, Fla. — Luis Silva scored two early goals and set up two more as Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC beat the University of South Florida 5-1 in an exhibition game Friday.
Silva, taken fourth overall in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, opened the scoring in the fifth minute when he found himself alone in front of the South Florida goalkeeper and easily scored.
Silva scored again in the 15th minute, converting a feed from Joao Plata.
Plata put Toronto up 3-0 in the 20th minute, picking up a loose ball after a tackle from TFC captain Torsten Frings.
Silva set up Dutch forward Nick Soolsma three minutes later to make it 4-0 Toronto.
Silva was the playmaker again on the Reds’ fifth goal, setting up Canadian international Terry Dunfield with a cross as Toronto went up 5-0 in the 38th minute.
Head coach Aron Winter made a full-team substitution in the second half. TFC’s offence dried up while South Florida scored in the 78th minute to make it 5-1.
Toronto FC opens the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic on Feb. 25 with a game against Orlando City SC of the USL.
