Controversial bills may hurt Harper government in the long run

OTTAWA – There may be a price to pay for the Harper Conservatives after introducing a pair of controversial plans.
Recently the government has been feeling the heat over its new online surveillance bill, and before that it was the idea to change Canada’s pension system.
Political communications specialist Dr. Allan Bonner told 680News the Tories will likely have a long term headache over these issues.
He said that this is not what Canadians want right now and the government appears to be out of touch with the people.
Bonner added that usually voters forget about these issues by the time they cast their next ballot however this time it could be different because of who the bills target.
Seniors are a huge part of the voting population and the online community can be very powerful.
It is believed that the Harper government is trying to get controversial legislation out of the way now so they can spend the rest of the time wooing voters before the next election in 2015.
