Monty Robinson takes stand at his trial

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – The off-duty RCMP officer accused of obstructing justice in a fatal motorcycle crash says he didn’t think before drinking shots of vodka.
Corporal Benjamin Monty Robinson is testifying at his own BC Supreme Court trial. In a steady voice, Robinson explained to the judge he didn’t drink to avoid charges, but did it to feel better. He also described how he walked his kids home after the accident which killed Orion Hutchinson four years ago. The 21-year-old was driving a motorcycle that collided with Robinson’s Jeep at a Delta intersection.
An officer at the scene has already testified that Robinson drank to “calm his nerves” after the crash. The court was also told Robinson took a course three years before the accident where he learned that people may escape a drunk driving charge if they consume alcohol after a crash.
