Police charge 2 brothers in connection with barber murder

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police have made arrests in the murder of 35-year-old Scarborough barber Chris Thompson.
Two Toronto brothers — Christopher Perez, 22, and Kevin Perez, 27, have been charged with first-degree murder.
At a news conference, Tuesday, Toronto police Det.-Sgt. Dan Nielsen said he called the Thompson family to tell them of the arrests.
“It’s sad, and on the other hand, they are pleased that there’s a sense of closure,” Det.-Sgt. Nielsen said.
He also said they are still investigating why Thompson was killed. Police believe Kevin was the shooter and that he and Thompson had some sort of a history.
“Unfortunately I can’t say specifically what the motive is,” Det-Sgt. Neilsen said. “What I can say is that there’s a history, a recent history, and there’s no good reason for something like this to have happened.”
Thompson was gunned down in his barber shop in the Malvern Town Centre on Jan. 24, 2012.
Thompson, who had a 15-year-old son and an eight-year-old daughter, was shot several times in an execution style killing.
Nielsen said although they have received good help from witnesses, they still haven’t heard from the man sitting in the barber’s chair when Thompson was shot.
In total, five people been have arrested in this case after police searched homes in Toronto, Orillia and Ottawa.
